Who we are

The short version
This site is deliberately light-touch. There are no accounts and no logins. We count page views so we know which parts of the site are useful, but we do that without cookies, without any third party, and without storing your IP address — so we can't build a profile of you, and we can't recognise you from one day to the next.
Information we collect directly
Browsing the site: we keep a simple count of page views. For each view we record the date, the page address, the country, the website that linked you here (the domain only, never the full address), and whether you're on a phone, tablet or computer. That's all.
The site sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. The counting is done by us, on our own server — nothing is sent to Google Analytics or any other analytics company.
We do not store your IP address. When you load a page your IP is used momentarily, in memory, for two things: to look up which country you're in, and to generate a one-way code so we can tell whether two page views came from the same person on the same day. It is then discarded, and never written to disk or to our database.
That code is made using a random value that changes every day and is deleted after two days. Once it's gone, the codes from that day can never be reconnected to each other or to anyone — which means we genuinely cannot follow a visitor across days, even if we wanted to.
If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal, we don't count you at all.
Counting happens in your browser rather than on our server, which has the useful side effect that search-engine crawlers are excluded automatically. Page-view records are deleted after 180 days.
The country lookup uses a database held on our own server (MaxMind GeoLite2), so your IP address is not shared with anyone to do it.
If you use the "Submit an event" or "List your business" forms: these send data to our server, where it is stored in our database. We keep the event or business details you give us, your name and email address, your phone number if you supply one, and your IP address. We use your contact details only to get in touch about that submission, and the IP address only to limit spam. Nothing you submit appears on the site until we have reviewed and approved it. If we decline a submission we delete it; approved events are removed automatically once they have finished.
Third-party services
Map tiles (OpenStreetMap). Maps are drawn using tiles from OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser requests those images directly from OpenStreetMap's servers, which means your IP address and browser details are visible to them. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Fonts, map code and photographs are all served from this site itself, so no third party is contacted for them.
Links out. Where we link to a venue's own website, or to Google Maps for directions, those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them.
Advertising
We may show advertising supplied by Google AdSense. Where advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve and measure ads, and in some cases to personalise them. Google's use of advertising cookies is described in Google's advertising policies, and you can manage your preferences at Google Ad Settings.
If you are in the UK or EEA, you will be shown a consent prompt before any personalised advertising cookies are used, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through that prompt.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data we hold about you — including the right to ask for a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how we use it. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is an email you have sent us. To exercise any of these rights, email Location@HullBearings.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
